A 49-year-old man died Monday in a lumbering accident near his rural Gays Mills home, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department.

Randall Lund was cutting down a tree for firewood about 11:30 a.m. when the trunk split and fell backward, pinning Lund, the department stated.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
