Those looking forward to celebrating the Fourth of July certainly won’t have to drive far for entertainment.

In Viroqua, Independence Day will kick off with the Viroqua Eagles Club Car Show starting at noon on South Rock Avenue. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Awards for the top cars in certain categories will be given out at about 4 p.m.

The Vernon County Historical Society is sponsoring its Old-Fashioned Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream Social on the lawn of the Sherry-Butt House, 795 N. Main St. in Viroqua, from 1-7 p.m.

Strawberry shortcake, ice cream, lemonade and a tour of the home are included in the price.

The Viroqua Community Band will hold a concert at 2 p.m., followed by the Viroqua Men’s Chorus at the house.

The Viroqua Skylighters, led by Viroqua’s Duane Hoff, will again provide the city of Viroqua’s fireworks show at the Vernon County Fairgrounds at dusk.

The 4-H food stand at the fairgrounds will be open for business from 6-10 p.m. prior to, during and after the fireworks. Brats, hotdogs, popcorn and refreshments will be sold to benefit the new exhibit hall at fairgrounds.

Elsewhere in the county, the village of Ontario has three days of events planned around the Fourth of July. This includes a talent show, Friday; a parade at noon and fireworks at dusk, Saturday; and a tractor pull on Sunday. There will be a number of other events going on in Ontario as well.

In La Farge, the annual village Fourth of July parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. Fireworks will be at dusk.

There will also be fireworks shows in the city of Hillsboro, at the Field Veterans Memorial Park; and in Westby, at the industrial park north of Hansen’s IGA.
