Whitestone Hill Battle to be discussed at Norskedalen

“Indian Battle at Whitestone Hill” by Clair Jacobson will be the program at Norskedalen, Sunday, May 25, at 2 p.m.

In 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, a crucial but obscure battle was fought between Sioux Indians and U.S. Cavalry troops in Dakota Territory. Occurring in present-day North Dakota only two months after the Battle of Gettysburg, Whitestone Hill has almost disappeared in American history. This is the story behind that conflict.

Jacobson, who works at Trane Company in La Crosse, has a masters degree in history from UW-Eau Claire and has been interested in early North Dakota history ever since spending vacations there as a child. He authored a book about this battle and has edited “Prairie Pioneer,” the journal of an early settler.

Regular admission rates apply.
