We’re not anti-Dairyland Power, but we don’t like landfill proposal

Letter to the editor:

We all want reliable electricity at affordable rates. Are we anti-Dairyland Power Cooperative? No, but we know that a new landfill anywhere is not being responsible.

Spending the next 30 years filling up a new landfill with caustic waste (Dairyland’s proposal) is not a long-term solution. Helping to clean up the air is great, but trading pollution (Dairyland acknowledges Oct. 6) is not. We may need short-term disposal option(s) to allow Dairyland to expand their renewable energy sources and develop recycling options. We would be willing to pay higher electrical rates to support some of these other disposal options which Dairyland calls “not cost effective.” They are still much better in the long run compared to a new landfill.

In the meantime, fighting for friends’/neighbors’ homes and properties is the right thing to do. For more information visit www.dont dumponus.org.
